Why is it healthy to masturbate?

Over the centuries, masturbation has been considered a bad habit by some religions and societies. For any reason we now find hard to understand, some religions like the Christian Church, for instance, have always wanted to have control over all the aspects of their community. That included telling them how to behave, creating codes of conduct, they even demonized human sexuality. Not only sex, but also self-sexuality or masturbation.

They conceived sex as a mean to procreate between a man and a woman and rejected the idea of having sex for pleasure. And, the same went for masturbation, which was considered to be evil and a mental disease. They frightened people with false myths about masturbation.  For many years, people believed that masturbating could make them go blind or sterile.

Luckily, those myths have already been refuted thanks to the progress of science, proving masturbation isn’t bad at all for our health, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Masturbation is as good to men and women. It’s beneficial not only for our physical health, but also for our mental health. From a psychological point of view, the benefits of sex are the same for both genres, although physical benefits are obviously different.

Psychologically, sex makes us feel good because it releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates the reward center of our brain. In addition, sex helps to relieve some pains like headache episodes. It also helps us to get rid of stress by lowering blood pressure. And last, but not least, it simply helps us to be more comfortable with our body and build a strong self-esteem.

When it comes to the physical benefits of masturbation, we need to differentiate men from women. On the one hand, female masturbation is advisable for many reasons. For instance, masturbation can ease body aches including the pain caused by menstruation. In addition, understanding how our body works helps us to know exactly how to enjoy it.

Ejaculation means the end of sex for men, but not for women, who are usually able to reach climax several times in a row and masturbation is the way to get multiple orgasms and be able to increase them. On the other hand, male masturbation also helps to improve their health. Ejaculating reduces the risk of developing prostate cancer. In addition, masturbation also helps men to have a better control of their body and last longer in sex, so it definitely improves men’s sexual life.
